International Medical Graduate Work Group

 

The 2020 Washington State Legislature passed Senate Bill 6551. The bill extends the work of the International Medical Graduate (IMG) Assistance Work Group. The IMG Work Group is charged with determining clinical readiness criteria for IMGs; a grant award process for entities that provide career guidance and clinical training for IMGs; and an evaluation process for hardship waivers to IMGs. The Work Group must submit an annual report to the Legislature from 2021-2025.

The 2019 Washington State Legislature passed Second Substitute Bill 5846 into law. The bill creates the International Medical Graduate (IMG) Assistance Work Group charged with studying and reporting recommendations to the Governor and the legislature by December 1, 2019. The Work Group must provide recommendations related to integrating international medical graduates into the Washington residency system among other related requirements. The Washington Medical Commission is charged with providing staff support to this Work Group and will submit the final report on its behalf.
