Speakers
Paul Surette MPAS, PA-C is a practicing clinician that lives and works in Olympia, WA. Over the 15 years that he has been a PA, Paul worked in primary care, first in family medicine, then in an advanced urgent care setting, where he continues to practice medicine today. He is a member of WAPA, where he acts as chair of the legislative committee. In this role, he participated in the process of drafting bill language and has given testimony before Washington state Senate and House committees on health care and PA issues. Paul is a father of two children in Olympia and spends much of his time attending soccer games and practices. He and his wife enjoy spending as much time exploring outdoors with their children as possible with hiking, cycling, backpacking and kayaking. He also plays drums in a band with a small group of musicians.
Micah T. Matthews, MPA, CPM started with the state nursing board as an intern in 2009 and has held the position of Deputy Executive and Legislative Director since 2014. He holds a Master of Public Administration with an emphasis in health policy and successfully completed the Certified Public Manager program through University of Washington in 2014. He spends his free time with family that live locally, playing guitar with various groups, camping, hiking, and trying to keep current on events related to technology, music, health care, and politics. Micah participates in multiple industry groups including the Council of Licensure, Enforcement, and Regulation (CLEAR), on which he served as Chair administrative and legislative committees. He is currently serving a second term on the CLEAR Board of Directors and is the Program Committee Chair for the September 2018 international educational conference in Philadelphia, PA. Micah served as a member of the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) workgroup on Marijuana and Medical Regulation and practitioner use policies, both of which were adopted by the House of Delegates in 2016. He served on the FSMB audit committee for 2016-2018 and is a member of the Board Executive Advisory Committee for 2017-2018, which is tasked with revising the FSMB model medical practice act.
